Working with themes
Which themes can ThemeSpot edit?
Last updated 30 September 2026
Short answer: ThemeSpot can edit the content on any HubSpot site you connect. How much of the design it can change depends on where the theme’s code lives and who owns it. This is what we know today, and where the limits are.
Content works on every theme
Whatever theme your site runs on, ThemeSpot can work on your page content: copy, headings, images, links, calls to action, SEO fields, sections and page layout, plus blog posts, redirects, forms and HubDB rows. Page changes land as HubSpot drafts, and nothing goes live until you approve it.
One caveat. When ThemeSpot can’t read a theme’s code, it only sees the values saved on each page. A field still showing the theme’s default is harder for it to spot, so it may ask you to check that page in HubSpot’s page editor.
What can change in the theme itself
Design changes (templates, modules, sections, fonts, colours and spacing) happen in the theme editor. Every theme falls into one of five groups.
1. Themes built with ThemeSpot
Fully editable. These are React themes whose source lives in your ThemeSpot workspace. ThemeSpot can change templates, modules, sections and global styles, preview the result and prepare a deploy. The deploy request names the exact files, and nothing uploads until you approve it.
2. Your own coded themes
Editable. If your developer built the theme and its code sits in your HubSpot account, ThemeSpot can read and edit it through HubSpot. A local preview isn’t always available for these themes, so check changes in HubSpot’s preview before you publish.
3. Marketplace themes
Partly editable. You can change the theme’s styles and any modules you’ve cloned into your own account. The original theme’s code belongs to its author and can’t be edited, and it keeps receiving the author’s updates. For deeper changes, the usual route is a child theme or a rebuild.
4. ThemeSpot preview themes
Browse only until licensed. You can look through the theme’s templates and modules, but its code can’t be changed until you have a licence.
5. Themes ThemeSpot can’t reach
Not editable in the theme editor. This covers any theme whose code ThemeSpot has no access to, such as one deployed from someone else’s project. You can still edit page content on these themes as normal.
Always outside the theme editor
- HubSpot settings: domains, the navigation menu, and the global header and footer.
- Developer work: brand-new behaviour, or a kind of module the theme doesn’t have yet.
How to check your theme
Ask ThemeSpot in chat: “Which theme does my home page use, and can you edit it?” It will tell you which group the theme is in and give you a link that opens it in the theme editor.
ThemeSpot is early, and this list will change as support grows. Something missing? See the roadmap.
